2024 Derby Day!
Saturday, February 24th was the 10th Annual Believe Beyond Ability Derby! It was an absolutely incredible day.
This year, we had 17 Derby kids!! With the help of our incredible volunteers, we were able to adapt 17 cars for these little Believers, and watch them GO GO GO!
Here’s a little recap of how Derby Day goes down...
First, we start with our sponsors. Without them, we could not get as many kids in cars, and we are endlessly grateful for their support!!
The cars get shipped and stored, and a few weeks before the big day, we get to building and assembling. We adapt the electronic wiring of the car to be switch accessible.
We order FireFly GoTo Postural Support Seats for those drivers that need it. These seats work great in the cars, but even better, the kids and families go home with this adaptive seat and can use it in so many more places!
The day of the derby, we adapt and adjust the cars so that each child is able to independently move a body part, to hit the switch, to make the car go! They drive through and around obstacles, cruise siblings around, and try not to cause too many bumper cars situations!
Each Believer and their family goes home with the car and equipment, with the goal of continuing to explore movement, switch access, and play!!
Thank you to the 2024 Sponsors!!

What is Derby Day?
What is Derby Day?
Every kid WANTS to move.
Every kid WANTS to play.
Each year, in early spring, Believe Beyond Ability hosts a Derby Day for our Believe community!
Prior to this event, we talk with families and therapists hoping to get their child an adapted car. The members of our Board, who are SLPs and OTs, will determine if we can make it happen, and what kind of modifications will be required. Companies and organizations in the area will "sponsor" derby cars, and we get to work adapting them!
Adaptations include seating changes, switch accessible power, and more!
On the day of the event, we get all of our Believers together, and host a Derby! Kids drive their own cars (parents also have controls), go over ramps, through "car washes", through bubbles, and knock down towers!
As we lovingly say, Derby day is the most MAGICAL day of the year.
